Simulation Engineer

From the actual Cybathlon race to the internal forces in the bones, almost everything can be simulated. Are you interested in translating real world situations to digital models? Then this is the function for you! You'll focus on the various models made by the team. Maybe you'll be able to create a combined model which allows the Movement Engineer to test out a new walking pattern and which allows the Frame Engineer to directly get requirements for the bones.

To avoid the limitations of a physical exoskeleton, you will work on a digital counterpart. Some functions simply cannot be tested within the limited time, or are too dangerous to do with a human pilot. Your task is to mimic the characteristics and surroundings of the exoskeleton as well as possible. This could be done by developing one extensive simulation, or by making multiple simulations which are specifically designed for one task.

In the end, the goal is for the simulations to give insight in how the exoskeleton can be made even better. The results of the simulations can be used to set up valuable requirements for the exoskeleton. For this, you will work together with almost all of the other engineers. Because the interpretation of this function is largely in your (team's) hands, a broad knowledge base and a creative mind is required.

Desired skills and experience

  • Preferably: End of bachelor or master Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics or Computer Science

  • Preferably: Experience with simulations

  • Multidisciplinary mind

  • Experience with or interest in programming

  • Creative and analytical working methods

  • Experience with version control systems (Git, GitHub) is a bonus

  • Able to clearly and understandably communicate technical knowledge

  • Experience with working in groups, projects and/or committees
